We are SO excited to be offering our arts-based after-school program in the heart of Downtown Boulder. We've been running an iteration of this program in NYC since the very beginning of Scribble almost 15 years ago! Here's some information about that program. Our goal with the after-school clubhouse has always been to create a safe, welcoming, and creative space for young artists to spend their time outside of school. With our small class size, this group very quickly becomes a familial and supportive community of artists exploring new materials and methods together.

At our Boulder location, each afternoon, we'll pick up students from Whittier Elementary and walk them to the studio. Then, we'll enjoy a healthy snack and open play (we take every opportunity to be outside during this time so we'll either be at the park or by the creek right next to our space, if weather permits). At 4:00pm, we'll settle back into the studio for an art class (the schedule of classes is listed below).

Engaging in one medium throughout an entire year offers our young artists an incredible opportunity to build upon skills and deeply explore artistic possibilities. Part of our programming includes a holiday market in December, film festival in March and an art show in May, all produced by and featuring the work of our students. All proceeds sponsor scholarships at our studio.

Note: You can also sign up for our after-school classes from 4-5:30pm as opposed to our more extensive after-school program (that includes pick up, snack, etc.). See classes below and sign up below.

CLASS SCHEDULE

MON: Game + Toy Design SIGN UP FOR CLASS

This class will touch upon all art forms including painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. We'll create our own illustrated board games with sculpted pawns, a printed deck of cards, design our own painted Pokémon or game card decks, and finally, build a  sculptural chess set and a set of wind up toys.

TUE: Sculpture SIGN UP FOR CLASS

We'll explore both abstract and representational sculpture with fibers, wood, found objects, air dry and oven-baked clay and paper mâché. Underlying our building process will be an emphasis on constructing stable armatures with a uniquely designed surface. We'll build mixed media creatures, sew our own stuffies, construct kinetic mobiles, and explore the art of designing "miniatures" with fully furnished doll houses, and more!

WED: Graphic Novels SIGN UP FOR CLASS

We'll explore the art of creating graphic novels through inventing our own characters and bringing them to life in our own illustrated comics, painted panels and fully bound books. Artists will experiment with implementing new drawing techniques into their work including shading, adding texture, and inking to add dimension. They'll also examine color theory through overlapping water-based paints and high quality markers and colored pencils.

THU: Large-Scale Painting SIGN UP FOR CLASS

We'll experiment with color, line, and shape through the use of various water-based paints and all on a large scale! We'll complete both abstract and representational paintings focusing on the themes of abstraction, portraiture, landscape and surrealism. This class is perfect for artists who love the tactile experience of painting and want to explore color theory and principles of art-making on a deeper level.

FRI: Lego Robotics with Namastem SIGN UP

We're so excited to be partnering with Namastem next fall to offer this class. Using the Lego SPIKE™ Essential system, students will work in teams to build and program robots and build other innovative systems. They will be given interactive challenges and learn through play and collaboration.
