This week of camp will focus on the art of photography using both technology and old-school art-making tools and techniques. We'll begin the week by venturing outside of the studio and capturing black and white images of the man-made world around us: buildings, streets, etc. Then we'll come back to the studio and assemble our images into collaged cityscapes. Next, we'll explore making sun prints in our parks and mounting these images onto decorative frames. We'll finish up the week by building small characters and props and then taking them out of the studio to photograph in natural settings. We'll invite families to our photo exhibition at the end of the week!

During this week of camp, we'll experiment with dying our own fabric and thread to create beautiful fiber art pieces. We'll begin the week with weaving; building our own round looms, dying our own yarn, and then completing doodle weavings! Our next project will be sewn fabric banners. Artists will decide on a word or phrase that is significant to them and then work to sew cut out fabric letters onto their own dyed banners. We'll finish the week exploring the art of Shibori-dying to create our own indigo-dyed bandanas. We'll celebrate at the end of the week with an art show that displays our fiber artwork.
-
This week of camp will be all about creating sculptural worlds of our own design. We'll explore sketching, architecture and character development as we ideate and realize our concepts together. Artists will use paper mâché to build a setting complete with detailed sculptural elements. Then, they'll move on to building their own figurines to live in their world. They'll complete the week by illustrating a small book that tells the story of the world they've built and inviting families to celebrate their accomplishments.
-
For this week of camp, we'll be experiencing the entire process of being graphic novelists. From sketching ideas to creating individual panels of a story, to assembling those panels into a complete book with a bound cover! Artists will bring their ideas to life in illustration and explore drawing, inking, painting, and book-binding tools. At the end of the week, artists will celebrate their completed books with a publishing party.
-
Do you have a dramatic artist at home who loves to create their own characters and tell stories? This is the camp for them! This week of camp, we'll be creating stop motion animation films from storyboarding, to building sets, to creating characters, to capturing still images and finally to compiling those stills into moving images. Artists will explore ALL forms of art-making this week including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and digital design. We'll celebrate their accomplishments with a film screening at the end of camp.

Stuffy camp is back for another week this summer! This was one of our most LOVED camps last summer and for good reason. Through intensive exploration of drafting, sewing, embroidery and more, we'll be making our very own unique stuffy creatures! Next, we'll build or sew one prop for our stuffy to wear or hold. When our stuffies and props are complete, we'll illustrate detailed stuffy portrait paintings. We'll celebrate at the end of the week with an art show that displays our finished stuffies.
-
This week of camp will focus on creating wearable art! We'll begin the week by exploring recycled and sculptural materials to create our own beads for jewelry. Next, we'll delve deep into the world of design by creating outfits and accessories for our own small mannequins. We'll finish up the week by up-cycling found garments to make them into one of kind ready to wear apparel! We'll celebrate this week's creations with a fashion show!

This summer we're offering a special camp specifically for upper elementary artists. In this camp, we’ll investigate how to use tablets to design original artwork using photography and graphic design tools. We’ll combine both digital and traditional art-making methods to create complex 2-D pieces of artwork and mount them for an art show for families to visit at the end of the week!

This camp is perfect for artists with vivid imaginations who enjoy assuming the characteristics of specific roles and acting out imagined adventures with others. We'll spend the beginning of the week developing a collaborative story, assuming roles and designing sculptural props and hand-crafted costumes. For the later part of the week, artists will be given a "mission" to complete and work together both inside and outside the studio to accomplish their task. The end of the week will include a performance for families to see this adventure come to life in real time.
